Tomatoes

Tomatoes are excellent for health. For starter, they famously have anti cancer properties. This is due to their lycopene content, which contributes to their colour. Tomatoes are also packed with Vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant. The body succumbs to free radical damage, harming healthy cells, caused by stress, pollution fried foods, chemicals and pesticides in foods. Antioxidants that are plentiful in tomatoes are the” little soldiers” of our body which not only prevent this free radical damage, but they also keep the skin clear, add a twinkle to the eye and add strength and luster to the hair

Tomatoes are also a dieter’s delight as they are low in fat. Raw tomatoes are alkaline and do not cause acidity or any gastric disturbance. They are easy to digest.

The next time your kids want something yummy to dip their strips of carrots, cucumbers, breadsticks or boiled potatoes, whip up some nutritious and tasty tomato salsa. Avoid fried chips and crisps, as they will only leech nutrients away from the body. You could also vary the level of spice in the salsa according to everyone’s tastes. This dip is appealing to people of all ages, and though it has a western origin, it completely agrees with Indian taste buds.
